Maple Tree Consulting and Support Services is seeking Full Time, Overnight and Casual team members for our Specialized Community Placement program. The Specialized Placement Support (SPS) team works in partnership with Children’s Services and Collaborative Service Delivery agencies to provide 24-hour support to youth in a home environment. Youth involved with SPS generally require a level of support beyond that of a typical placement, such as in a foster home or group care setting. SPS staff engage with youth in daily living, modelling, and teaching a variety of life skills including: positive relationship building, appropriate boundaries, self-care/hygiene, and communication skills. The SPS team practices harm reduction and approaches youth through a trauma informed lens, ensuring they continue to feel safe in their home.

A successful candidate will:

  • Be flexible and reliable in their availability, including evenings, weekends, and overnight
  • Understand the behavioural impacts of an FASD diagnosis and experience in working with youth who have such needs
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to form positive relationships with youth and co-workers
  • Possess knowledge and skill in crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Have an understanding of child development and positive parenting strategies, as well as the ability to prepare meals and complete basic household tasks

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe and positive environment where youth can learn and grow
  • Support youth to engage with their culture, community, family, and peers through role modelling and relentless support.
  • Provide transportation for youth, enabling them to engage in community and family events, as well as attendance at school and professional support appointments.
  • Work in collaboration with the CSD Service Team and make recommendations based on observations and time spent with the youth
  • Advocate and support youth to advocate for themselves to access resources or supports to enhance their connections and development.
  • Document observations and share with the SPS team at monthly meetings, focusing on strengths of youth
  • Light cleaning and cooking duties
  • Provide support to other programs as assigned
