A Family Time Support Worker (FTSW) is an important member of an integrated Collaborative Service Delivery (CSD) team, who works cooperatively to support safety and promote attachment for families. FTSW’s work directly with children and families by providing transportation from placements to family time visits, supervising the family’s time together, and modelling positive parenting strategies that promote healthy child development.

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe and positive environment where families can connect
  • Support parents to engage with their children and model positive parenting strategies, including emotional regulation and age-appropriate discipline based on a child’s developmental level
  • Provide transportation for children to and from placements so they may consistently attend family time visits
  • Work in collaboration with the CSD Service Team and make recommendations based on observations and time spent with the family
  • Document observations from family interactions, focusing on strengths of parents and progress towards parenting goals identified by parents and the Service Team

  • Possess knowledge and skill in crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Have an understanding of child development and positive parenting strategies

Qualifications and requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in the Human Services field
  • Related experience working with children, youth, and families; awareness of CSD is an asset
  • Knowledge and skill in practicing trauma informed care
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and minimum $2 million vehicle liability insurance on a reliable vehicle
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last 6 months
  • Child Welfare Intervention Record Check completed within the last 6 months
